Homemade Summer Fun

Summer is one of the best times to bond with your children and give them new experiences. However, sometimes those experiences can to put a bigger dent in your budget than you would like! Anymore it seems like in order to have fun you need to spend a lot of money. That's not the truth! It can be very stressful and expensive to take your children through theme parks or the zoo all for them to become exhausted one hour into the adventure. Inexpensive fun is always the best kind of fun! Most of it can be done with regular household items and in the comforts of your backyard or a local park. Make the most of your summer by spending quality time with your children without having to worry about breaking the bank! Need ideas on how you can do that? We have a list of our top 5 homemade summer activities ready for you to create and enjoy!


Homemade Slip n' Slide!

Can't afford a swimming pool or simply want to avoid another trip to the store? No problem! Your children will love helping your create an exciting water toy out of simple household items! All you'll need is a few large black garbage bags, some stakes, and a hose! Pull apart the garbage bags and lay them flat on the ground in a long line and stake them down. Wet down your newly created slide and you are set! If you have a hill nearby take advantage of it and make the slide even better! Your children won't be able to get enough of it and you will have spent next to nothing!


Backyard Campout

It can be hard to find enough time to pack up all your camping gear and escape to a camping spot whether it be near or far. The easiest and least expensive way to give your children the camp experience is to do it in your very own backyard! Grab a tent, some marshmallows, and roast your way into an adventurous evening with your children!


Obstacle Course

This activity can also be done in your own backyard. Help your children create an obstacle course to run through or let them create their own. If it's hot outside find fun ways to incorporate water! Children will love this out of the ordinary activity that will give some excitement to their summer!


Outdoor Restaurant

Creating an outdoor restaurant is a great way to spice up an otherwise ordinary meal.  Set up a table outside with plates and cups just like a restaurant. Create menus for your children to choose from and be their server! Or you can have one child be the chef and the other the server and create jobs for your children to serve their parents! Even if it's peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on the menu they will still feel like they are having a special meal. 


Treasure Map & Hunt

Children love adventure! A treasure hunt is a great way to give them what their creative minds are thirsting for! Create a treasure map for your children that will take them around your yard or even a park nearby where you can keep watch over them. Let them figure out the clues on their own and find their way to the treasure! The treasure could be anything from lunch in a basket, a few pieces of candy or a toy they have been wanting!
